Growing up in the East End of the island (Tortola, British Virgin Islands) by the water side, a boat, dingy, surfboard or something else that floats was always close by…for fishing, short trips to Red Rock (a formation of rocks and reef in the middle of the ocean, about a half of a mile from land) to collect whelks and conch or just to sail around with friends. We learned so much about the sea world in those days just by spending so many of our daily hours in the sea.
